The new Slim PM brake – compact performance for modern servo applications
The Slim PM is a permanent magnet brake that has been specially developed for servo motors in the low and mid-torque range. It complements the High Torque Line, which is designed for larger servo motors with its enormous braking force of up to 280 Nm. The Slim PM Line has the same interface, but is significantly more compact and highly cost-effective. With its compact design, high power density, and a wide torque range from 2.7 to 17 Nm, the Slim PM offers a cost-optimized and powerful solution. As a fail-safe holding brake with emergency stop function, it ensures maximum operational safety – even under demanding conditions from -40°C to +120°C.
The Slim PM was specifically designed for integration into low- and mid-torque servo motors and allows for both A- and B-side installation variants on the fixed bearing. In addition, it can be easily integrated into non-motor applications such as hand-held tripods or medical devices. This makes it the ideal choice for applications in automation, robotics, servo motor technology, and medical technology, where compact design, reliability, and precision are crucial.

The Slim PM Line delivers significantly higher torque than conventional spring-applied brakes at the same size, enabling more compact and powerful servo drives. With its cost-efficient design, it matches spring-applied brakes in price while offering the superior performance of permanent magnet technology. Mechanically and electrically identical to Kendrion’s High Torque Line, it allows the use of a unified interface across different motor power classes. Its compact design reduces installation space by up to 25 % and allows motors up to 5 % shorter. The Slim PM is maintenance-free, backlash-free, and wear-free, ensuring high precision, fast switching times, and energy-efficient operation.
