Safe Movements with Electromechanics and Safety Control

Kendrion products optimize cobots and industrial robots.

Whether safety controllers, gripping solutions, or robotic joint lockings: our products ensure safe, efficient robot operation. The Safety PLC can monitor multiple robots simultaneously and enables fast handling. The new HMG holding magnet gripper offers a power-off holding force of up to 700 N, making it the ideal solution for holding, gripping, and handling metal workpieces.

Our Safety PLC (EtherCAT/SIL3) stops the robot as soon as a person or object enters the robot’s work area. The unique feature of our Safety PLC is its Floating Point Unit (FPU): This mathematical-arithmetic co-processor enables fast position calculations. Robots equipped with our Safety PLC can therefore achieve high handling speeds.

With our Safety PLC, multiple robots can be monitored simultaneously. Another advantage of our Safety PLC is its high flexibility: Unlike competing products, users are not tied to specific hardware. The safety controller is an open system into which the robot manufacturer can integrate its own functions and kinematics.

Our Safety PLC features an FSoE protocol (FailSafe over EtherCAT) and fully supports drive controllers with safety functions such as STO, SS1, and SLS. In addition, various Safety I/Os are available, enabling the connection of safety-relevant devices such as laser scanners, encoders, and other sensors to the Safety PLC.

Immediate stop in case of power failure

In addition to the Safety PLC, we offer the Robotic Joint Locking (pin brake), an electromagnetic position locking system for robots. The Robotic Joint Locking ensures the immediate stop of a robot joint in the event of a power failure. We supply the locking solution in a high-performance version for heavy-duty industrial robots and a low-cost version for cobots. The high-performance version withstands static transverse forces of up to 1700 N.

Very powerful holding magnet gripper

With the HMG holding magnet gripper, we also launch a powerful solution for holding, gripping, and handling metal workpieces. The HMG enables seamless integration of collaborative robots (cobots) into applications. The heart of the HMG is the high-performance permanent electroholding magnets of the GTN050 series: These round magnets are available with diameters of 25 mm, 35 mm, and 50 mm, and holding forces of 120 N, 300 N, and over 700 N.

Since we manufacture our own magnets, we can also develop holding magnet grippers with customer-specific holding forces. These grippers are optimally designed to meet the exact requirements of the application. The HMG is compatible with all holding magnets in the Kendrion portfolio.

Specifically designed for continuous use in pick-and-place applications, the electromagnetic finger gripper MFG was developed. This solution is based on the compact, high-performance solenoids of the LHP series, which feature high forces (up to 160 N), short switching times (<100 ms), and long service life (up to 10 million switching cycles).
