Energy-Efficient Locking System from Europe

With the Ultra Compact Door Lock, Kendrion introduces an innovative electromagnetic locking solution specifically developed to meet these requirements. Combining exceptionally low power consumption with an ultra-compact footprint, the lock enables manufacturers to develop energy-efficient, battery-powered systems without compromising performance.
Energy Efficiency Reduces Operating Costs
The power consumption of a locking system directly affects battery life, maintenance intervals, and overall operating costs. Kendrion's Ultra Compact Door Lock consumes up to 50% less energy than comparable products on the market. This significantly reduces the need for battery replacement, enabling more cost-effective operation of autonomous applications such as locker systems. Measuring just 45 × 45 × 15 mm, the Ultra Compact Door Lock is ideally suited for applications where every millimeter of installation space matters. Its compact footprint also gives design engineers greater flexibility when developing the next generation of compact devices.
Designed for Modern Self-Service Systems
As more goods, equipment, and materials are made available through automated self-service systems and dispensing stations, demand for energy-efficient locking solutions continues to grow. Typical applications include parcel lockers, locker systems, vending machines, and medical equipment and medication cabinets. Wherever a permanent power supply is unavailable - or energy must be used as efficiently as possible - the Ultra Compact Door Lock helps reduce maintenance requirements and extend battery life. Its exceptionally low power consumption also makes it an ideal choice for solar-assisted and other energy-autonomous systems. The Ultra Compact Door Lock is based on Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) technology. This innovative operating principle enables highly energy-efficient actuation while requiring minimal installation space and forms the basis for the Ultra Compact Door Lock's exceptionally low energy consumption.
"The Shape Memory Alloy wire requires only a brief, very low-power electrical pulse to unlock. This enables significantly longer operating times for battery-powered applications while maintaining an exceptionally compact design," explains Wolfram Heisen, Product Expert and Head of Solenoid Technology at Kendrion.
Despite its ultra-compact design, the Ultra Compact Door Lock delivers a static holding force of 5,000 N and is optionally available with shock resistance of up to 300 g. This makes it suitable for demanding applications such as laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, where high mechanical strength and operational reliability are essential. An integrated microswitch for lock-status detection, along with an emergency release mechanism, enables reliable integration into a wide variety of device designs.
European Manufacturing with Competitive Economics
Kendrion has deliberately chosen to manufacture the Ultra Compact Lock within the European Union. For manufacturers across the European Economic Area (EEA), this means shorter transportation routes, greater supply chain reliability, and more predictable long-term sourcing. At the same time, the Ultra Compact Door Lock combines European manufacturing with a competitive price-performance ratio. Manufacturers benefit from a dependable European supply source without compromising cost efficiency, product quality, or technical performance.
"With the Ultra Compact Door Lock, we're responding to the growing demand for locking solutions that combine energy efficiency with cost-effective performance. Today, manufacturers expect more than just low power consumption and a compact design, but they also require reliable supply chains. Developed and manufactured in Europe for Europe, the Ultra Compact Door Lock combines all of these requirements in a single product," says Laurence Setijoso, Market Segment Manager, Solenoid Technology at Kendrion.
With the Ultra Compact Door Lock, Kendrion expands its portfolio of electromagnetic locking systems with a solution specifically developed for the next generation of battery-powered applications. Combining energy efficiency, an ultra-compact footprint, and European manufacturing, the Ultra Compact Door Lock offers manufacturers a reliable, cost-effective solution for modern locking systems.
