The worldwide energy demand is increasing from year to year - to cover this high energy demand and at the same time to reduce the associated CO2 emissions, requires great effort. The expansion of renewable energy sources, in particular wind energy, is an essential factor in achieving these goals. As the number of turbines to be installed has to be reduced, the output of each individual wind turbine will also increase and thus the demands on the mechanical components used for power transmission - especially those of the brakes used for pitch adjustment of the rotor blades.
